In the early script of the film, written by Lawrence Kasdan, when Barranca pulls his gun out on Jones, the archaeologist uses his whip to make Barranca shoot himself, but the script was scrapped. Barranca then runs away but is later killed with poisonous darts by the Hovitos tribe. The gun is yanked from Barranca's hand and lands in a stream. When Barranca draws a revolver, Indy uses his famous bullwhip and wraps the whip around the gun.
